The Camilla Mikama fall 2011 collection “Red Forest”The name “Red Forest” refers to the dead forest surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Even though the Chernobyl area was so highly polluted, today, 25 years after the accident, many rare species such as wolves and wild horses have returned and the nature is recovering. “I looked at some recent photos from the destroyed, ghostly city, where wild wolves wander in the middle of the collapsed buildings. The people left in a hurry and left everything behind; amongst the ruins you can see cracked dolls whose curls are messy and the paint from their porcelain faces has faded. “ But there is a seed of hope. The idea behind the collection is the optimism that nature can recover from the harm caused by us -and that it’s still not too late to change our consumption habits.
