Of Dichotomies and Identities - NSCAD BFA 2008

My visual perception of the local traffic, the general public and the modes of transport in New Delhi was the basis of the inspiration for this collection. The transportation system, to my mind, not only acts as a physical vehicle for the lives of several thousands of Indians, but also as a philosophical and theoretical vehicle that embodies all that is representative of the definition of India that I have made for my self. With the combination of the above-mentioned concepts, I created and exhibited a collection of garments referencing my body that is inspired by the transportation systems of New Delhi and historically informed to allude to my own Indian background, my own struggles in this constructed identity.
